South Sound Green Tour : April 17 & 18

The south sound chapter of the NorthWest EcoBuilding Guild is sponsoring the first annual South Sound Green Tour to celebrate green innovations in our region through education in sustainable building practices and living greener lives.

This year’s tour will showcase the greenest homes and buildings in our area that incorporate significant use of solar or other renewable energies, new and reclaimed materials, low energy consumption and water conservation technologies, and sustainable design techniques. Educational sessions will be held at various locations and feature real life topics on how to think and live greener.

Passive House Gathering in Olympia March 26

Passive House Northwest Regional Meeting will be held on Friday, March 26th in Olympia, WA. Visit PHnw.org for registration and detailed information. An all day program of advanced Passive House presentations will be provided. Katrin Klingenberg, director of the Passive House Institute US, will be the featured speaker. Vendor exhibits will be also be present.

Did you know that environmentally certified homes in King County, from November 2009 through February 2010, comprised 37% of the new home market, sold for $85,550 more per home, were 9.8% smaller in size, and still sold in the same market time as new homes sold without a certification? Solar Rises out of Economic Slumps

At least one bright spot in a year of cloudy economic times — Solar is on the rise in the Puget Sound. In 2009, nearly 200 PSE customers installed solar systems, making it the fastest-growing year ever. The growth raises the total number of grid-connected solar systems to 516 – up from only 100 solar power systems that were online with PSE in early 2007.

Thurston County residents installed 50 solar generator units this year, with another 16 put in by PSE customers in Pierce County. [Source: www.BusinessExaminer.com Dec. 28, 2009]
